Monuments (2018-2019)
A remote beach; natural, teeming with perpetual life
A wooden post; grafted erect, decomposing

Marooned remnants of
 metal
  rubber
   concrete
awaiting interpretation by future heirs:

  Consecrated vestiges of a sacred site?
  The humble bones of a once-vital shelter?
  Devices of communication? Recreation? Torture?

Or, perhaps such conjecture is futile
Foolish to suggest one object’s purpose
is inherently more righteous than another’s

And, whether the disfiguring evidence
of our conquest and consumption
is temporary or permanent
