Self Portrait – Pre Sneeze

Self Portrait (Pre Sneeze)

I hate phony things.  When I was a toddler and my parents put me on my uncle’s lap because he was dressed as Santa Clause for Christmas it freaked me out because I knew that something was off- that it wasn’t real. I am drawn to things that are genuine.  I am drawn to portraiture that is not glamorous or posed because it shows a genuine moment, an authentic and intimate look at a person.  I plan to hopefully do a lot more portraits in this style so I did a few of myself as a study to work out some kinks in the technique before I ask other people to step in front of my lens.

This shot shows me just a moment before a sneeze.  No retouching has been done.
