Here is the sixth image from my abstract architecture series (see THIS post for the series introduction). I’ve titled this one, Web. While studying this building and figuring how I wanted to abstract it I decided that the thing I liked most about it were the strong vertical lines and the semicircle loop pattern going up, down, and across the building.
I decided to use a wide angle lens and move in close to the base of the building to exaggerate the perspective and create a web-like appearance. I was immediately pleased with the result when I viewed it on the back of my camera after making the exposure. The once vertical lines are now a series of converging lines that appear to get closer together as they move in towards the “center” of the web (and I flipped the camera on it’s side to further abstract the verticals). The semicircle loops connecting the vertical lines really do help add to the web-like appearance. Once again the lightly-colored concrete building made it possible to capture excellent contrast between the sky, the building and the cast shadows from a late morning sun.
